Infosys interview process for freshers: stages, applying and preparation

· 7 min read

Short answer: Infosys fresher hiring is commonly reported as three stages: an online assessment, a technical interview and an HR interview. The details change with the role, with campus or off-campus hiring, and from year to year. Treat any fixed list as a guide, and confirm the current process on infosys.com or in your college's drive notice.

This guide is for final-year students and recent graduates preparing for an Infosys drive. It does not repeat forum reviews. It says what each stage is checking, how to apply without falling for a fake link, and how to rehearse each stage before the day.

The three stages and what each one checks

Sources that rank for this topic agree on the broad shape, even when they disagree on the details. Read it as the usual flow, not a promise.

1. Online assessment. Usually aptitude (quantitative, logical reasoning, verbal) and, for some roles, coding. It checks speed and accuracy under a clock.

2. Technical interview. A conversation about your fundamentals, your projects and sometimes a short piece of code. It checks whether you understand what you wrote on your resume.

3. HR interview. Questions about you, your choices and practical things like relocation and shifts. It checks fit, clarity and whether you will accept the offer.

The number and order of rounds vary by role, by campus or off-campus hiring, and by location, so read your own drive notice for the exact sequence. Infosys's own HackWithInfy page names Specialist Programmer among the roles its pre-placement interviews lead to: infosys.com/careers/hackwithinfy.html (opens in a new tab). Systems Engineer and Digital Specialist Engineer are the other fresher roles commonly reported. placd's Infosys page describes the rounds, who can apply and the pay, with sources and dates: placd.in/companies/infosys.

How freshers apply, and which links to ignore

There are three common routes in. Use only the official ones.

  • On-campus: your placement cell announces the drive and registers eligible students. Follow the college notice, not a forwarded message.
  • Off-campus: apply on Infosys's careers site, infosys.com/careers (opens in a new tab), when a fresher drive is open. The eligibility rules are in the drive notice, so read them there.
  • Referral: an Infosys employee refers you through the company's own system. A referral still ends in the same official application.

Ignore apply links shared in messaging-app groups and on job-aggregator sites. Some are out of date and some are scams that collect fees or personal data. Infosys's official Recruitment Fraud Alert page says it never charges a fee at any stage of hiring, never sets up interviews over instant-messaging apps, recruits only from @infosys.com email addresses and never asks for bank details: infosys.com/careers/apply/recruitment-fraud-alert.html (opens in a new tab). Treat any fee request as a scam. If a link does not end on infosys.com or come from your college, do not enter your details.

Eligibility rules such as minimum marks, backlogs and year of passing have changed across years, and older pages online disagree with each other. The only version that counts is the one on the current official notice.

Whether Infosys is hiring freshers right now

Hiring-site pages from past years describe both campus and off-campus Infosys drives for freshers, but volume and timing change with the market. A page that says "Infosys is hiring" without a date tells you nothing. Check the careers page on infosys.com and your placement cell. If no drive is open, use the time to prepare, because the online assessment is the stage where preparation shows most.

Experienced hiring and BPM roles follow a different process and a different interview. This guide covers only fresher engineering roles.

What the technical and HR interviews usually cover

The technical interview for a fresher usually stays close to your degree and your resume.

  • Your final-year project: what it does, what you built yourself, what you would change.
  • Programming basics in the language you list: loops, functions, arrays, strings, and a short program you can write and explain.
  • Object-oriented ideas: class and object, inheritance, polymorphism, encapsulation, with a small example of each.
  • Database basics: keys, joins, normalisation, and writing a simple SQL query.
  • One or two topics from your branch if you are not from computer science.

Interviewers are listening for clear explanation more than clever answers. If you list a skill on your resume, expect a question on it.

The HR interview usually covers self-introduction, why Infosys, strengths and weaknesses, willingness to relocate or work shifts, and your plans for the next few years. Two placd guides cover this round in depth: worked sample answers at placd.in/blog/hr-interview-questions-for-freshers-with-answers, and the STAR method for candidates with no work experience at placd.in/blog/behavioral-interview-star-method-freshers-2026.

A two-week plan before the drive

  • Days 1 to 4: thirty minutes of timed aptitude a day, mixing quant, reasoning and verbal. Note every topic where you are slow.
  • Days 5 to 7: one coding problem a day on arrays and strings, written and run, not read. The practice problems at placd.in/products/dsa run your Python in the browser and compile C++ and Java on most problems.
  • Days 8 to 9: revise OOP and DBMS basics, and write three SQL queries from memory.
  • Day 10: explain your final-year project out loud for five minutes, as if to a stranger. Then answer "what would you change".
  • Days 11 to 12: prepare HR answers for the questions above, each with one specific example.
  • Days 13 to 14: one full rehearsal of the interview stages, then fix the one weakest area.

Rehearsing the Infosys stages on placd

placd does not run an Infosys-specific interview, and nobody outside Infosys can promise you its questions. What you can do is rehearse the same kind of stages.

  • Start with the free two-minute readiness check. Pick your branch, answer six questions, and get your score and the topic to work on first.
  • Then sit a full AI mock interview for your branch and role at placd.in/products/mock-interview. It runs an intro round, technical questions, a behavioral round and, for software roles, a coding round where your Python is run against test cases, then grades the whole thing. One full mock interview is free when you sign up and confirm your email.

FAQs

How do I apply to Infosys as a fresher? Through your college placement cell if Infosys visits your campus, or through the careers section of infosys.com when an off-campus fresher drive is open. A referral from an employee also goes through the official system. Do not apply through links in messaging-app groups or aggregator sites.

How many rounds are there in the Infosys interview for freshers? Usually three: an online assessment, a technical interview and an HR interview. The count varies by role, by campus or off-campus hiring, and by location. Confirm the current process on the official drive notice.

Is Infosys hiring freshers? Hiring-site pages from past years describe both campus and off-campus fresher drives, but timing and volume change. Check the careers page on infosys.com and your placement cell for an open drive rather than trusting an undated post.

What does the Infosys interview cover for freshers? The technical interview usually covers your project, programming basics, OOP and database basics. The HR interview covers your introduction, your reasons for choosing Infosys and practical questions about relocation and shifts. Salary and cutoff figures change by year and role, so read them on the official notice, not on forums.

Where should I start if the drive is next month? Take the free two-minute readiness check (the link above), then follow the two-week plan with the days stretched to fit.
