What are the steps in the SDLC, and which model would you choose?
Requirements gathering and analysis, design, implementation, testing, deployment and maintenance. Waterfall runs these once in sequence and suits fixed, well-understood requirements; Agile (e.g. Scrum) repeats them in short iterations and suits changing requirements. Pick a model and justify it by how stable the requirements are.
Who is a Scrum Master, and what is sprint planning?
The Scrum Master coaches the team on Scrum, facilitates its events and removes blockers; they are not the team's manager. Sprint planning happens at the start of each sprint (one month or less): the team picks items from the product backlog, sets a sprint goal and plans how to deliver them.
Write a program to check if a given string is a palindrome.
Two pointers: i at the start, j at the end. Compare s[i] and s[j], move both inward, return false on the first mismatch and true when they meet. O(n) time, O(1) extra space. Ask whether case, spaces and punctuation count; if not, skip non-alphanumerics and compare in lowercase.
What is the difference between C, C++ and Python?
C is procedural, compiled to native code, with manual memory management. C++ adds classes, templates and the STL while staying compiled and fast. Python is high-level and dynamically typed, run by an interpreter with garbage collection and a large standard library, so it is quicker to write but usually slower to run.
How would you choose between C and C++ for a client project?
Choose C for low-level, resource-constrained work such as firmware, drivers or kernels, where small binaries and tight control matter. Choose C++ when the codebase is large enough to benefit from classes, RAII, templates and the STL, e.g. desktop apps or performance-critical services, at near-C speed. Team skills and existing code also decide it.
How are arrays implemented in Java?
Arrays are objects on the heap with a fixed length set at creation. Elements sit in contiguous slots: primitive arrays hold values, object arrays hold references. Indexing is O(1) and bounds-checked (ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException). Defaults are 0, false or null. For resizable storage, ArrayList wraps an array and grows it when full.
