Questions to expect in Wipro interviews

Write code to reverse a string without using a built-in function (Java).
Convert the string to a char array, swap chars[i] and chars[n-1-i] with two pointers moving inward until they meet, then build a new String from the array. O(n) time and O(n) space, since Java Strings are immutable. Avoid concatenating in a loop, which is O(n^2).
What is the difference between method overloading and method overriding?
Overloading: same method name, different parameter lists, usually in one class; resolved at compile time (static polymorphism); a different return type alone is not enough. Overriding: a subclass redefines an inherited method with the same signature; resolved at runtime by the object's actual type (dynamic polymorphism). Static, final and private methods cannot be overridden.
What is the difference between the = operator and the == operator?
= is assignment: it stores the right-hand value in the variable on the left. == is comparison and returns true or false. In Java, == compares values for primitives but references for objects; use .equals() to compare content, e.g. two different String objects holding the same text.
What is the difference between TCP and UDP?
TCP is connection-oriented (three-way handshake), reliable and ordered, with retransmission, flow control and congestion control; used for web, email and file transfer. UDP is connectionless with no delivery or ordering guarantee and an 8-byte header (TCP: 20+ bytes), so latency is lower; used for DNS, streaming, gaming and VoIP.
What is the difference between a table and a view?
A table stores data physically. A view is a saved SELECT query, a virtual table with no data of its own (unless materialized) that is re-run when queried. Views simplify complex joins and restrict which rows or columns a user sees. Simple single-table views can be updatable; views with joins or aggregates usually are not.
What is a semaphore?
An integer synchronization variable changed only by atomic wait (P: decrement, block if no units are available) and signal (V: increment, wake a waiting process). A binary semaphore gives mutual exclusion; a counting semaphore limits access to N identical resources, e.g. buffer slots in producer-consumer. Waits in the wrong order can cause deadlock.

Is the essay in Wipro NTH important?
Yes. Written communication is its own section of about 20 minutes in which you write a short essay (reported at 100–200 words) on a given topic. Wipro says the assessment tests written communication alongside verbal, analytical, quantitative and coding skills, so practise short, structured essays under time.
Can I apply to Wipro Elite NTH with a backlog?
Per Wipro's 2023 notice, one backlog is allowed at the time of the assessment, but it must be cleared along with the final semester. You also need 60% in 10th, 12th and graduation, no gap during graduation and a full-time degree.
